DESIGN CONCEPT:

We have worked with Finnish public service broadcasting company Yle over several years to renew and redesign offices and broadcasting studios in their Helsinki campus to bring the premises both functionally and visually up to date. Participatory service design methods were used to analyse end-user workspace needs.

The workplace design projects included upgrading several floors of offices in the Media House for the News and Current Affairs unit and broadcasting centre. Reorganisation enabled more efficient use of the premises, while providing new coworking and meeting spaces as well as improved quiet workspaces to fulfil activity-based working needs. At simplest, considered choice of colour, lighting, structural elements vegetation and improved acoustics could be used to upgrade existing environments.

We were also involved in Yle’s “Road to the Future” project for all 1,960 Yle employees to improve the working culture and support a sense of community and new ways of working. Yle employees were engaged in the participatory process through interviews and workshops. The final office layout was presented to the organisation as a video path and 3D visualisations.
