PES-Architects wins 1st prize in Nan Jiao Competition in Beijing

PES-Architects was announced as the winner of the international competition for the Nan Jiao region in Northern China. PES-Architects’ masterplan was chosen over four others competitors, including Zaha Hadid.

Under the project name ‘The Horn of Plenty’ several short-, mid – and long term strategies were developed. The jury especially praised the convincing sustainability strategies developed in co-operation with British engineering company Buro Happold and the overall fresh approach of the project. PES-Architects ideas included amongst others the transformation of dried-out riverbeds & abandoned coal mines and proposed to use agriculture and landscape as important elements for designing the future image of the valley as well the design of a new logo for Nan Jiao.

Currently PES Architects is working on the second phase for the Nan Jiao project together with Buro Happold and local partner Studio+, which will be presented to the Beijing Municipal Government in October.
