PES-Architects designs major hotel tower development in Phu Quoc, Vietnam
PES-Architects has developed a hotel complex design for a site on Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island, continuing the practice’s long-term work on demanding construction projects across Asia. Known as Bai Dat Do, the large-scale development comprises five towers ranging from 25 to 40 storeys in height, accommodating hotels, commercial premises and residential units. The total gross floor area is approximately 530,000 square metres. The design is rooted in the site’s distinctive landscape character, tropical climate and the ambition to create architecture that is both recognisable and naturally integrated into its surroundings.
In the coming years, Vietnam will make significant investments in the development of international tourism, event infrastructure and hospitality services on Phu Quoc Island. As part of preparations for APEC 2027, a conference centre, theatre and several hotels will be constructed in the area by 2027, forming a new international hub for tourism and events.
The relationship between the buildings, the landscape and Phu Quoc’s natural topography is a central theme in PES-Architects’ design. The tower volumes have been carefully shaped to maximise sea views while creating a distinctive sculptural silhouette within the evolving coastal cityscape. The façades will be clad with ceramic panels featuring special glazing that allows the surfaces to shimmer and change appearance depending on light conditions and viewing angle. The material draws inspiration from the pearlescent sheen of seashells, giving the towers a subtly changing character that reflects their maritime setting.
“Vietnam has become an important operating environment for us in the last few years. We see significant potential in the country for high-quality architecture that respects local identity while responding to the needs of a rapidly urbanising society,” says Jyri Eskola, Development Director and Partner responsible for exports at PES-Architects.
The newly announced project forms part of a broader project portfolio and strategy through which PES-Architects is strengthening its presence in the growing Southeast Asian market. This development is supported by the establishment of PES-Architects’ Ho Chi Minh City office in October 2025.
Construction of the project has already commenced, and the development is scheduled for completion in autumn 2027.
