Turku Music Centre Fuuga opens
Turku Music Centre Fuuga opened its doors to the public this week, establishing its place on Aura River’s cultural waterfront and kicking off a month-long festival to introduce the much-anticipated building to the people of Turku. The Turku Philharmonic Orchestra has also moved into its new home to prepare for the inaugural concert in the main concert hall on 12 November 2026.
The guiding design principles for the music centre were to build a world-class concert hall with state-of-the-art acoustics and an open and accessible living room for locals and visitors to enjoy even outside ticketed events. The rounded, copper-clad building integrates respectfully into the built environment, engaging in dialogue with the Aura River and its urban context.
As the project teams came together to celebrate the successful completion of the building, we took a moment to recognise the collective effort that made it possible.
“This has been an exceptionally demanding project that could only be realised through close collaboration within the Fuuga alliance, with the client, designers and construction team all working towards a common goal,” says Tuomas Silvennoinen, Fuuga’s chief designer and Chair of the Board at PES-Architects.
“After five intense years of design and construction, it’s a joy to see Fuuga finally complete and in use by the people it was designed for.”
Our warm thanks go to the City of Turku and our other alliance partners and sub-consultants for bringing our shared vision to life. A special thank you to our own dedicated team of designers for their deep commitment and expertise throughout the project.
Turku Music Centre Fuuga was delivered using a collaborative alliance model. The alliance partners were the City of Turku, Hartela, PES-Architects and WSP Finland, with Laidun-design as a subcontractor. Akukon & Kahle Acoustics were responsible for acoustics design.
The design is based on the alliance consortium Harmonia’s winning proposal in a tendering process in 2021. Construction began in 2023, and the building was completed on schedule and within the EUR 90 million budget in October 2026.
